Result
St. Peter’s 2-20 St. Lawrence’s 1-07
Old Bedians Rugby Club in Didsbury was the venue for this 4th
round of the Lancashire Senior Football Championship game between
St. Oisins and St. Peters on Thursday 22nd July. With a beautiful
Mid-Summers evening awaiting both teams and good underfoot
conditions, a good hard fought game of football was on the cards
and both teams did not disappoint.
St. Oisins started off the brighter of the two teams narrowly
missing the chance to take the first score of the game. St. Peters
however had a two point lead after the first quarter thanks to
points from John O’Neill, Donal Gallagher, Eoin Meaney (05 to 03).
St. Peters full forward line started to trouble their counterparts
in defence with some fine tap downs and high fielding setting St.
Peters up well coming into the break. From here on, St. Peters
started to tighten their grip on proceedings going in at half time
1-10 to 0-04 in front thanks mainly to a finely flicked goal by
John O’Neill.
The second half started off nip and tuck for long spells with St.
Oisins taking some fine scores and breaching the St. Peters defence
on 4 more occasions including an own goal by Joe Corcoran
(although Oisin's Richie Coss may have something to say
about that!) with about ten minutes of play to go. This could
have been a lot more only for two fine saves from Joe Sheehan who
had another great day in goals. Another long ball into the St.
Peter full forward line lead to a goal for Donal Gallagher. In the
end, St. Peters came out on top with a comprehensive victory of
2-20 to 1-07.
Best for the St. Peters were Joe Sheehan, Paidi O’Shea, Eamon
Hansberry, Eoin Meaney, John O’Neill.
